Administrative and Academic Policy Information

Refund Policy

  • The application fee is non-refundable.

  • Applicants who cancel within 3 days of signing and enrollment agreement and making an initial payment will receive a full refund, except for the application fee.

  • Students who withdraw or are dismissed from the program in the first 7 calendar days after the program commences will receive a full refund, minus the per day tuition rate for the number of class days completed.

  • Student refunds are prorated, with the student being refunded all tuition for days they will not attend due to withdraw or dismissal, up to completion of 50% of the program.  For example:  students who complete 10% of their program before withdraw or completion will receive a 90% refund; students who complete 25% of their program before withdraw or completion will receive a 75% refund.

  • No refunds will be made after 50% of a program is completed.

  • All refunds will be made within 30 days after the cancellation or termination.

Textbooks

Students must purchase the required textbooks for the program by or on the first day of classes.  These may be purchased at the Institute’s Natural Health Shop; total cost is approximately $220.

The required texts are:

The Anatomy and Physiology Learning System (text with accompanying workbook), by Edith J. Applegate

The Anatomy Coloring Book, revised edition by Wynn Kapit and Lawrence M. Elson

Trail Guide to the Body, by Andrew Biel.

Business Mastery, by Cherie M. Sohnen-Moe

The Ethics of Touch, by Ben E. Benjamin, Ph.D., and Cherie Sohnen-Moe

Books are subject to change. Prospective students should contact the school before purchasing any books. A list of recommended texts will be provided to each student during the course of study.

Supplies

Students will also need:

at least 2 sets of white twin bed sheets (including pillow cases) for use in technique classes and supervised practice sessions. These may be purchased at local stores convenient to the student.

oils and lotions for classes and practice sessions. These may be purchased through the Institute.

Self Care Requirement

Students are required to receive at least one session of massage or bodywork during every month they are in school. These sessions are arranged and paid for by the student and must be with a therapist who has received at least 175 hours of state-approved training.

Massage Tables and Equipment

Students are provided with an “Equipment Talk” early in their program, to familiarize them with the features of several appropriate massage tables and accessories which the Institute has researched. Students are not required to purchase a massage table, as we provide tables for in-class practice; however, it is highly recommended that they do so for required practice sessions outside of class time. Massage table and accessories orders may be processed through the Institute.

Student Services

A video lending library of most class materials is available to students and graduates. A collection of supplemental texts and resource materials is available to students for use during school hours. Massage supplies, study aids, and resource materials are available for purchase at the Institute’s Natural Health Shop. Students are provided with information on liability insurance options.

Any student or graduate may request a meeting with a member of the administration to address school-related concerns or for academic and vocational guidance.

Attendance and Make-up Policies

The attendance and make-up policy reflects the number of hours required by the program’s approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. There are an allowed number of absences in the program, for which students are required to complete make-up assignments using the videotape lending library or by private tutorial with the instructor at the student’s expense. Excessive absences put the student on Academic Probation and may be grounds for the student to be required to repeat classes, or for dismissal from the program. Snow days are built into the winter class schedule; school-wide late arrivals, early dismissals, and cancellation of school due to inclement weather are sometimes necessary. These do not reflect on the individual student record.

Leave of Absence

A leave of absence or interruption of training must be requested in writing, using the Leave of Absence Request Form, available from the Education office.  Mt. Nittany Institute will generally grant approval for the Leave of Absence for reasonable requests provided there is an expectation that the student will return to school within 180 days from the date of the last class counted.  All assignments, tests and class work missed must be made up on a schedule approved by the faculty.
