Ayurveda:
The Science of Life
Ayurveda,
the ancient medicine of India, is thought to be the oldest
medical system on Earth, dating back over 5000 years. Ayurveda
sees all individuals as uniquely coded with information that
enlivens our own inner wisdom. Everything is made of energy.
Defining life through nature, we see that everything is made
of five elements, always changing, always animated by “prana”,
the life force energy. Through bodywork, studying the natural
cycles, and understanding one’s individual constitution,
students will learn to balance and harmonize themselves with
the natural environment for greater health and wellbeing.
Bodywork techniques will include Polarity Therapy and
Ayurvedic body treatments. Selfcare will include yoga and
Polarity exercises, as well as dietary and lifestyle
guidelines.
Chinese
Medicine: Five Element Theory
Thought
to have derived from Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine is a 2000-year-old science that teaches us that a life force energy, called
“chi”, animates all living things. Seeing the body as a
whole, the focus of our study will be to understand and
balance yin and yang and the five elements, which make up and
govern the body’s energy flow. We can learn to balance this
chi in the body through bodywork techniques that affect the
chi in the meridians, or rivers of energy that flow through
the body. Students
will learn to identify patterns of disharmony through the
study of the meridians, the hara, tongue, face, and pulses.
Bodywork techniques will include Shiatsu (Acupressure), Touch
For Health, and Jin Shin Jyutsu®. Selfcare will include Tai
Chi, Qi Gong, and dietary guidance.
Chakra
Healing: The Energy Centers
The
energy centers, or chakras, are a system first described in
the ancient Ayurvedic texts. These centers can be related to
the nervous system and take in and process energy in the body.
Each chakra governs different areas and aspects of the body
and our physical, mental and emotional health. Maintaining
open and balanced chakras brings harmony and health to the
body, mind and spirit. Students will learn to identify and
evaluate chakras and their condition, as well as work with the
life force energy to bring the chakras into a state of
harmonious balance. Bodywork techniques will include
Quantum-Touch, hands on healing techniques, as well as the use
of color and sound, and dialoguing techniques. Self care will
include self study, healing meditation practice, and guided
imagery.
